Siquijor: A Journey to Philippines' Mystic Island of Fire

Image
Welcome to Siquijor (I took three friends with me! Hi Jhem, Jen and Denice!) Siquijor, dubbed as "The Healing Paradise" or "Isla del Fuego" has a very special place in my heart. No wonder I've visited this majestic paradise twice in 4 months.  People may think Siquijor as a not-good-place-to-visit due to stories about mambabarangs and mangkukulams but in reality, people here are the warmest people you will ever meet.  Being one of the smallest islands in the Philippines, Siquijor has so much to offer.  "Those who don't jump will never fly" Salagdoong Beach Salagdoong beach is one of the famous beaches in Siquijor due its clear water and pristine white sand - and for the brave souls out there, jumping off its buwis-buhay 35ft cliff jumping area is a must try! Paliton Beach Aside from Salagdoong beach, you can also visit the amazing Paliton Beach. I didn't see any cottages or bars around the area - just pure su...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Who would've thought 2016 waved goodbye already? Time does fly really fast! 2016, for me, has been the most devastating yet challenging and rewarding year. I didn't start my year right (my ex and I broke up 9th January) but I sure ended it with a huge smile on my face! It was January 2016 when I started solo backpacking. I first went to Baguio ('cos that's where broken hearts go, duh) then visited the nearby provinces up until I reached Sagada, the farthest province I've gone to up north, and Siquijor, the farthest I've been to down south. 12 months down the line, I have managed to visit 27 out of 81 provinces of Pilipinas! My main goal is to finish #Project81 (visiting all the 81 provinces of the Philippines). From trekking the physically demanding mountains, meeting the locals and visiting one of Unesco Heritage Sites up north, to swimming with underwater creatures, surfing and crashing against the waves of La Union, chasing waterfalls, crossing open seas, exp...

Siquijor - Isla de Fuego

Image
Siquijor, also called as Isla del Fuego, is not just about black magic, witchcraft and scary stories. Being the third smallest province in the Philippines, Siquijor offers white beaches, refreshing waterfalls, old churches and a whole lot more. I left cebu at half past 7AM and went straight to Pier to catch a ferry going to Siquijor. Apparently, I was advised that the ferry ride will take about half a day (as it will pass by Bohol) and would cost Php1,400.00. Aray ko, beh. I was told I can ride a bus in South Bus terminal to Dumaguete which will take abou six hours and from Dumaguete, I can hop on a ferry going to Siquijor for about 1 hour. Maybe luck wasn't on my side as when I reached the bus terminal, the bus going to Dumaguete had left already. Kingina bes, pati bus iniwan ako. Luckily, one of the bus operators told me I can ride a bus going to Liloan, then ride a ferry going to Dumaguete and from Dumaguete, another ferry going to Siquijor. Bus ride from Cebu going to Liloan to...
